Last Friday, GS held a scavenger hunt for our 2016 new staff. Our new staff bonded over completing the scavenger hunt before meeting up with the GS senior staff at a local Santa Monica establishment. Welcome to all of our new staff!
For the January Giving Friday, GS Will Be Supporting MEND
MEND, a client of the firm, is the largest poverty agency in the San Fernando Valley and provides services such as emergency food, clothing, medical/vision/dental care, job skills training and job placement assistance, English as a Second Language classes, and youth activities to homeless and disenfranchised individuals. The MEND program GS will be supporting in January is the Shower Program. This program provides a washroom and toiletries to MEND’s homeless clients and those who do not otherwise have access to a washroom. In addition, each Tuesday, MEND’s homeless clients have access to toiletries, hot meals, a box of nutritious food meant to last 3 to 4 days, clean clothing, and MEND’s wide array of referral services.
Jeans for Children’s Bureau
In honor of National Adoption Month and the global #GivingTuesday movement, GS is raising funds to support Children’s Bureau of Southern California. Children’s Bureau is committed to providing vulnerable children the foundation necessary to become caring and productive adults by preventing child abuse and neglect, and offering superior programs in foster care, adoptions, child development, parent education, and mental health. Founded in 1904, Children’s Bureau is the largest investor in child abuse prevention in the country and helps more than 28,500 children and parents each year. This month GS is collecting funds to support the not-for-profit Operation Gratitude. Operation Gratitude is an organization that sends care packages to veterans, first responders, wounded warrior, care givers and U.S. service men deployed overseas. Their care packages are filled with a variety of things such as snacks, personal hygiene products, and personal letter written in appreciation. Operation Gratitude’s mission is lift the spirits of those serving our country by meeting their evolving needs, as well as creating a forum for Americas to show their appreciation for those in the military.

Jeans Against Modern Day Slavery
ZOE International and the ZOE Rescue Walk 2015 fight against child trafficking by fully engaging in the following three components: prevention, intervention and aftercare. ZOE has a remarkable structure that creates mini families amidst the big family at ZOE. The children come from slavery or potential slavery and abuse and become extraordinarily transformed by the love of the ZOE families. They have also begun work to start rescuing children in our own neck of woods, Los Angeles. The Rescue Walk raises money for human trafficking, commonly referred to as “Modern day slavery. It is estimated that there are currently 27 million enslaved worldwide, and only one out of 100 victims of trafficking is ever rescued. An estimated 1.2 million are children. July Jeans Day for MEND
GS is holding a Toiletry Kit Drive for homeless individuals supported by MEND. Kit materials include: Ziploc bags, travel sized toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, travel shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, soap, lotion, comb, wash cloth, lip balm, cotton swabs and sanitizer. The GS goal is make 35 kits, enough for a week’s worth of donations.
Jeans for Special Olympics
At the end of July, 7,000 athletes will take the global stage in Los Angeles to compete in the Special Olympics World Games. Arriving from all corners of the world, they will show us what incredible courage and unwavering determination can accomplish. Jeans Supporting Nepal
Gumbiner Savett Inc. is supporting the American Red Cross relief efforts in Nepal for our June Jeans Day. The Red Cross is helping with immediate and long-term recovery efforts in Nepal after the devastating April 25 earthquake, with workers from all over the world, including American Red Cross disaster specialists.

GS is supporting Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA)for our April Jeans Day. CHLA has been named the best children’s hospital on the West Coast and is among the top five in the nation for clinical excellence with its selection to the prestigious U.S. News & World Report Honor Roll. CHLA is home to The Saban Research Institute, one of the largest and most productive pediatric research facilities in the United States. It is also one of America’s premier teaching hospitals through its affiliation since 1932 with the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California. Each year, CHLA provides more than 107,000 children with pediatric health care.
Jeans Day for Sustainability
Inspired by a client, GS will be supporting Climate Ride and their California North Coast event from May 17-21, 2015. Climate Ride’s multi-day hiking and cycling charitable events allow participants to learn about and support sustainability and active transportation movements. During the day, participants get to hike and ride through some of the country’s most beautiful and historic areas, while in the evenings, Climate Riders listen to inspirational speakers from all corners of these fields and get to know fellow participants working toward the same goals. Jeans day for Back on My Feet Los Angeles
In January GS is collecting funds in support for the non-profit Back on My Feet Los Angeles , which one of our Audit Seniors is involved with. Back on My Feet is a nationwide not-for-profit that uses running as a means to build both self-esteem and confidence within the homeless population in order to help them achieve independence and self-sufficiency. Back on My Feet has served over 33,000 residential members since 2009 with 85% of its members attending morning runs.

Gumbiner Savett Inc. is proud to welcome new “family” members to our staff! To ring in the New Year right, and to introduce the new employees to the firm, GS hosted a “New
Staff Social”. GS employees enjoyed appetizers, drinks and the chance to meet the new faces in the office. New staff pose with partners (LtoR) - Kevin Yardumian, Jon Shoemaker, Joshua, Andrew, Liyang, Michelle, Christina and Michael Savoy.
GS Annual Holiday Party
GS celebrated the holidays this year with a bit of pizazz. We went to Universal Studios and received the red carpet treatment at Whoville and the Globe Theatre. We enjoying rides like the Mummy, Transformers and the Simpsons; not to mention hanging out with the Minions at the Despicable Me ride. A beautiful Los Angeles day of fun and festivities was enjoyed by all.
In December to help those less fortunate, we collected can goods, boxed food and monetary donations for the Westside Food Bank. The holidays are a particularly busy time for the food banks around Los Angeles County. Westside Food Bank’s mission is to distribute as much food as possible to local agencies with food assistance programs and to reduce food waste on the Westside of Los Angeles County. As the food bank warehouse for the Westside since 1981, they annually distribute nearly 4 million pounds of food to 65 Westside social service agencies.
November Jeans Day
With so many great causes during the holidays, we decided to sponsor three charities in November. GS is supporting Urban Possibilities, M.E.N.D. and the Westside Food Bank.
Staff is collecting professional clothing for men and women, toys for children and canned food for local people in need.
CalCPA ABC Event
As sponsors of the CalCPA ABC Event, we were up bright and early meeting bankers and attorneys at Skirball Cultural Arts Center in mid-November. We met many new people and reunited with old friends. Proceeds from the event benefitted a great cause, the Charles Gumbiner/Lou Savett Memorial Scholarship Fund. This scholarship is awarded to an accounting student who demonstrates academic excellence and a dedication to community service.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Please join Gumbiner Savett Inc. throughout the month of October as we, once again, become Passionately Pink® in support of this cause.
Funds raised during the month will be sent to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and, the American Cancer Society. GS will be hosting several events during the month in support.

GS celebrates our September Birthdays. One year wiser for GS staff members!
Our September jeans day celebrates two great charities. The Light the Night Walk for Leukemia & Lymphoma raise funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and their life saving research. We will also support the 2014 Rock ‘n’ Roll Los Angeles Halloween Half Marathon for Team ASPCA to help raise awareness and much needed funding to support the ASPCA’s programs serving victims of animal cruelty.
July Jeans Day for Operation Smile
Operation Smile mobilizes a world of generous hearts to heal children’s smiles and transform lives across the globe. OS provides free surgeries to repair cleft lip, cleft palate, and other facial deformities for children around the world.
Four our June jeans day, this year GS staff is supporting MEND. MEND is dedicated to relieving the effects of poverty, its underlying mission is to provide the means and the path to self-sufficiency. MEND provides the basic human needs vital to day-to-day survival as well as education, training, opportunities, and support essential to reducing and ultimately eliminating reliance on public and private assistance.
Jeans and Greeting Cards for Children
GS is getting crafty and creative for our April Jeans Day. We will be making greeting cards and raising monetary funds for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA). Gumbiner Savett Inc. sponsors Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles
Shareholder, Shreedhar (Shree) Kothari, recently attended the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles, along with several Gumbiner Savett staff members. The festival was celebrating its 12th year. Shree has been participating in the festival for the last 5 years as a board member and sponsor. Shree’s involvement supports his love for Indian film and the firm’s Entertainment practice.

Jeans for Books
GS collected books in March for the charity RE-BOOK IT — New Life for Your Books. RE-BOOK IT is a free community service provided by The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles. A portion of the books in every donation or the funds raised from every donation goes back to the local
community in a charitable, constructive way. The program was created for 3 purposes:
1) To ensure that no books end up in landfills, but instead find new homes in the hands of readers.
2) To provide low-cost books and raise funds for local libraries, charities, hospitals, and schools.
3) To help preserve one of the last remaining independent bookstores in Los Angeles by providing it with books it can sell to book-lovers at affordable prices.

Turn “Dresses into Dreams” for high school juniors and seniors who otherwise could not afford to attend prom.
GS will be collecting donations through Valentine’s Day — Tuesday, February 14. What we are looking for:
- New or gently used formal, prom or cocktail dresses
- Strappy high heels or formal shoes
- Clutch or formal purses
- Rhinestone jewelry
