Gumbiner Savett Inc. has been selected as one of 10 cosponsors for the George Willie Ethnically Diverse Scholarship & Internship Program, administered through the Private Companies Practice Section (PCPS) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA).
The George Willie program provides a scholarship and internship to ethnic minority accounting students who intend to pursue their CPA licensure. It runs during the January-April busy season with recruiting currently taking place for the 2022 season.
The PCPS picks 10 students to participate in the George Willie program at a cosponsoring firm and awards up to $10,000 scholarship per student to help with tuition for their final academic year. Applicants pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in accounting or an accounting-related major with at least a 3.0 GPA must plan to sit for the CPA exam.
“We work in a diverse global economy that is continuously changing. At Gumbiner Savett, we embrace that diversity in many ways, all of which promotes the perspective we’re able to bring to our work,” said Managing Director Rick Parent. “To be sure, we value the different traits in all of us and understand those varying qualities make us stronger.”
Gumbiner Savett is eager and proud to participate in this program created in honor of George Willie, CPA, CGMA, a former chair of AICPA’s PCPS Executive Committee and the AICPA Minority Initiatives Committee. The firm supports the tenants of Mr. Willie’s 35-year career, during which he promoted the benefits of a career in accounting to students and young professionals in pursuit of the CPA license.
Interested accounting students can visit aicpa.org/pcpsscholarship for more information or go to ThisWayToCPA.com to complete the online application. Applications are currently open, with a deadline of April 16, 2021 (all applicants will be notified by email of the final selection by July 31).
